"Well, Sam has done it again, and no, not like Britney. He's once again guilty of rifling through my journal and putting my innermost thoughts and feelings to music, and performing them for all the world to see and hear. As The Fugees once sang, Sam is once again "killing me softly with his song." While it's true Sam didn't actually dig through my journal for songwriting inspiration, it sure as hell feels that way. "Thrown myself into the deep end, because you're weeping, only human...Oh/Pick yourself up off the floor, put that drink down on that bar/we won't need it for long/I know a better place." Even better is the gently rolling encouragement he offers his subject. "Take a minute, if you need it, and start breathing, only human. Let us see that hopeful smile that you once wore." The lyrics are so bare and so honest, that they leave me feeling like I'm standing stark naked in a crowded room for all the world to see. Only a handful of artists can do that to me, and with this song, Sam has secured his place inside that elite group. As Sam grows older, more confident and sure in his craft, so do his songs, maturing and ripening into musical compositions able to stand their own against the music industry's heaviest hitters. Though Sam has always been wise beyond his years, it's evident listening to lyrics that are way older than his 26 years, that he's hit something incredibly deep inside his well of inspiration. The work that has sprung forth these past few months is nothing short of magical. Sam, if you're reading, whatever sweet spot you've stuck, stay there, because it's absolutely golden. I, for one, am incredibly excited about the direction his career is taking. The inclusion on this track of his sister, Grace Lindsey's, incredible vocal prowess makes an already amazing track that much more incredible. The brother-sister harmonies achieve what only brother-sister duos like the Everly Brothers can do - knowing each other so well, and for so long, that their perception of each other's pitch, tenor, ranges and vocal intricacies twist their vocal stylings into one. It's awe-inspiring. To listen to this snippet of Sam Bradley's incredible talent (truly, we're gobsmacked, and we're longtime believers of his astounding soul and talent), visit his YouTube page."
What are the three main ingredients for a perfect gig? The answer is witty banter, an engaged audience and of course, the performer themselves.
These were all present at the very enjoyable gig by Sam Bradley at Ronnie Scott's Bar last night (September 4th).
Having been to many shows of Mr Bradley's previously myself, he never fails to keep the audience amused with his hilarious chatter in between songs and how he is able to keep the audience moved with his incredible vocals (yes, they are spine-tingling) each time.
In addition to this, with his equally talented sister Grace Lindsey at hand, provided stunning vocals, accompanying him in their newly co-written song, 'Only Human'. Their blend of harmony topped the night off splendidly. You can clearly see the passion that the two artists have for their craft and this is also very heart-warming to see the support they have for one another and at each gig, whether or not there is one or both of them on the stage.
With these things in mind, I would encourage more and more people who have not been to see this fantastic musician perform, to do so. Not only will you experience real music and real talent, but it will make you want to come back supporting who I believe is a rising star. Mark my words.
