Sam Bradley - Fan Experience from Jammin' Java, Spring Tour 2012

Fan experience from Spring Tour 2012 at Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA on April 10, 2012

"I'd never seen Marcus Foster and Sam Bradley before but I was hella excited...."
"Sam Bradley was first and I swear, that guy is super fun!  You can't watch him and be in a bad mood.  He's kind of like a cartoon character and I mean  that in a good way.  He's just so animated. "
"He's very energetic and as I sat directly in front of him, he must of looked at me 50 times. "

Sam Bradley - Show Report, The Space, Evanston

The Space
Evanston, IL
April 18, 2012

The Space, was the perfect venue set in downtown Evanston. Providing an intimate entertainment area where every table placement had an excellent stage view.

The Evanston show was the second to last concert for Sam Bradley who toured along with Marcus Foster.

This was my first Sam Bradley concert, and I didn't realize how hysterical he was... he had the entire audience laughing the entire time he was on stage. He knows how to engage with the audience and interact with everyone- not all musicians do that, so it was fresh and relaxing to see. Sam took songs from both his EP and his album, Zuni. He ended  the night with "Lights" from his album Zuni which was accompanied by Marcus Foster.

After the concert, Sam and Marcus were both generous enough to greet fans at the merchandise table and take pictures. It was a great time!

Sam Bradley Show Report, Garfield Artworks, Pittsburgh

Sam Bradley
The Garfield Artworks
Pittsburgh, PA

April 20, 2012

The evening started with a reunion of sorts.  We have not seen Sam since December of 2010 so this adventure was long long overdue. The Garfield Artworks was a unique venue set in the "Little Italy" neighborhood of Pittsburgh.  We joined the modest crowd and awaited the set to start.  As this was the last stop of the tour the subdued atmosphere was perhaps fitting. Despite that Sam of course put on an amazing show, donning a hat akin to that of a musketeer (on a bet - which incidentally he lost- it was supposed to be worn the entire set) for half of his set.

Sam never ever disappoints. His heart and soul is left out there whether there are five people or five hundred.  Surprisingly the majority of people in attendance had traveled from somewhere else, only two locals in fact.  Typical Sam.  As he said during the show "helping tourism in Pittsburgh"

Sam Bradley - Show Report, PJ's Lagerhouse, Detroit

Sam ROCKS the Motor City

Detroit loves Sam Bradley!   After a long trip from Buffalo, once again Sam played his heart out to a full house of enthusiastic and boisterous fans who did not want him to stop.  He began the set with Science and when he started Woman You Crazy the crowd went wild.  He ended the set with Soho Whores leaving his fans screaming for more. Sam puts his heart and soul into each and every performance and his fans love him for that.  Sam’s set although way too short for me was the BEST of the night. We can’t get enough of Sam’s music.  Sam ended his set leaving old and new fans anticipating the day when he will be back in the Big D.

Set list

Science
Little Sister
Passport
Woman You Crazy
Too Far Gone
Soho Whores

After Sam left the stage, he was his usual friendly, lovable, and most of all approachable guy. He made a point to stop to speak with as many people as possible, and never refused the request for a picture.  He treats all of his fans like friends, sticking around till closing making sure that he said hello to everyone and you know the ladies just loved those hugs!

What a voice, what a personality and what a fantastic person. Detroit will never be the same. Hurry back Sam we miss you already!

Sam Bradley Show Report, The Tin Angel, Philadelphia

The Tin Angel
Philadelphia, PA
April 11, 2012

When I learned that Sam Bradley would be playing the Tin Angel, a wonderful venue in Philadelphia that I have been frequenting since its grand opening in 1992, I was ecstatic!
As I climbed the mountainous staircase up to the “listening room” I habitually touch the photos on the wall of the shows I’ve attended over the years.  Lyle Lovett, Dar Williams, Susan Werner, Francis Dunnery, Marshall Crenshaw, Amos Lee (who by the way bartended at The Angel and makes a decent Cosmopolitan!), Raul Malo, Jeff Buckley, David Gray, Martin Sexton, Paula Cole, Ani DiFranco, Patty Griffin, Jonatha Brooke, Laura Nyro,  Keb' Mo, Duncan Sheik, Dave Alvin, Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Kelly Willis, Graham Parker, Al Stewart, Tom Rush, Chris Smither, Steve Forbert, Loudon Wainwright III, Odetta, Olu Dara, Freedy Johnston, Roger McGuinn, Rosanne Cash, Janis Ian, Richie Havens, Jill Sobule, , Gillian Welch,  Luka Bloom, Nils Lofgren, Marshall Crenshaw, Rodney Crowell, Lloyd Cole, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Rick Danko, Townes Van Zandt, Morphine, Gil Scott Heron, Christine Lavin, Chris Whitley, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Jonathan Richman, John Gorka, Susan Werner, , Moxy Fruvous, Fairport Convention, Tim Finn, Robyn Hitchcock, Ron Sexsmith.. just to name a few.
My excitement mounts as I make my way down to the front and take a seat at my usual table.

Within minutes, Sam takes the stage.  I am overjoyed and proud to see him on a stage that is as familiar to me as my very own living room.  He begins his set with Science Prevents Me.  Beautiful.

We have a first timer at our table, a music buddy who has been to hundreds of shows with me over the years… she came unaware of Sam’s talents (shocking that there are a few left in the world) and by his third song in - Little Sister - I knew we had her!

Sam’s set was over far too quickly, but we still had Marcus Foster to come.  It was my first time seeing Marcus and I was quite excited to see him.
Marcus had us all at first growl!  Wow, raw, powerful and primal.  Marcus has a set of strong bluesy songs that were very impressive.  He definitely gained a few new fans!
I fell in love with his song, Solid Ground.

Another magical, musical night in Philadelphia.
Come back soon, Sam

Sam Bradley Show Report, Johnny D's, Boston & Rockwood Music Hall, NYC

Boston, MA
April 13, 2012

Woke up at 530am... The day had finally come!!
Checked my backpack one last time to make sure I had all I needed (bus tickets, passport and more importantly, concert tickets), Sam's 'usual' and after making sure my son was awake, grabbed the local bus to take me to the bus station.
What I hadn't factored in my planning was that it was Friday the 13th...
Caught the local bus at 715 to take me to the subway but it finally came at 725. Nerves are setting in because my bus to Boston leaves at 815 and I have a 20 minute ride to get to the subway. Made it there at 745 and ran to catch the subway that was leaving a minute later. Now, remember, it's Friday the 13th...
For no apparent reason, the subway stops between stations and everything turns dark. Granted just a minute but enough to make me start panicking. Made it to the right stop and again ran to the bus station. I now have about 8 minutes to spare...
I get to the counter only for them to tell me they have a computer fail and they're not sure they can give me my ticket! The lady calls her supervisor and, since I handed them my confirmation number, she can get my ticket. With a rushed thank you, I sprint to the right gate, with about 3 minutes left and FINALLY, I'm granted access to the bus.
Now, of course, when the day starts that way, you're scared of what'll come next...
We got stuck at customs for about 45 minutes and had to play translator for an agent. Task was not easy since they were refusing entry to one of the passengers. Still, she finally understood why she couldn't cross the border.
8 and 1/2 hours later, I'm finally in Boston!!! Not really knowing where to go except from what I read on Google maps, a friendly subway agent guided me in the right direction. 20 minutes later, I'm standing outside Johnny D's!

I know I'm early but venture inside if only to use the bathroom and who do I see? Sam!!!
Hadn't seen him in a while so we caught up on everything for a few minutes before he had to go get ready.
Now, the show... It was FANTASTIC!!! Sam and Marcus were obviously having a lot of fun and so was I!
Science, Little Sister, Soho and so many made me forget the whole morning's disaster. It was just good to see Sam again.

(Note:  Boston additional video can be found here)
Got my 'kit' after the show and got a few more minutes with Sam before I continued on to catch the bus...to NYC!!!
A very cold bus ride (I was so thankful for my hoodie!) later, I'm in New York at around 530 in the morning. And what do you do in New York? You shop! Which I did until it was time for the concert...

Sam and Marcus were on fire!!!! I sent you the set list (again, thank you, Sam!) so you know what I'm talking about...

After a goodbye and a hug from Sam, my road trip was over. Left NYC at midnight and made it back home in Montreal around 8am the next morning.

Was it worth it? Absolutely! Would I do it agIn? Hell, yeah!!!!
